When and where to plant
When: Late summer to early autumn; plant corms about 5–6cm deep.
Where: Full sun in well-drained soil. Ideal for beds, borders, gravel gardens, lawns/naturalising and containers.
What kind of plant is it?
Hardy cormous perennial (RHS H6) – the foliage dies back after spring, while the underground corm remains dormant and can return each year.
Size and flowering
Expected size: Up to about 10cm high and under 10cm spread initially; clumps establish and enlarge over roughly 2–5 years.
Flowering time: Early spring.
Care
Avoid waterlogged soil. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering; a light feed while leaves are still green can support the corm for the following year.
What makes it special?
Large light-blue/lavender goblet-shaped flowers with vivid orange stamens. Excellent for naturalising in grass and for early pollinator interest.
Bulbs made easy
Bulbs and corms are one of the easiest ways to garden – if you can dig a small hole, you can grow them. In the right well-drained spot this hardy perennial crocus can settle in and flower for years.
