50 x Anemone de Caen Bulbs

£12.99

50 bulbs/corms for a colourful garden display. De Caen garden anemone / windflower — botanical name Anemone coronaria De Caen Group — supplied as a generous planting pack for beds, borders, pots or other suitable garden areas.

When and where to plant

When: Plant corms in autumn for spring flowering in suitable sheltered sites, or in spring after the worst frosts. Soaking dry corms before planting can help them rehydrate.

Where: Full sun in light, sandy or loamy, well-drained soil. Best in sheltered beds, borders, rock gardens and containers.

What kind of plant is it?

Tuberous herbaceous perennial (RHS H5) – dies back into dormancy after flowering and can regrow from the underground corm, but may need protection from hard winter frost.

Size and flowering

Expected size: Generally about 20–30cm high with a compact clumping spread; RHS gives 2–5 years to mature clumps.

Flowering time: Spring, commonly March to May depending on planting time and conditions.

Care

Good drainage is essential. Keep dormant corms relatively dry and give winter protection in colder or exposed gardens.

What makes it special?

Produces bright, poppy-like flowers in a mixture of colours including reds, blues, purples and whites. Excellent as a cut flower.

Bulbs made easy

The corms are simple to plant and give a big return for a small hole. Unlike the hardiest bulbs, De Caen anemones appreciate a sheltered, well-drained position and may need frost protection in colder gardens.
